Any Singapore citizen residing overseas who satisfies the qualifying criteria may apply to Elections Department to be registered as an overseas elector to cast his/her vote at one of the 9 overseas polling stations. Besides the overseas polling station that is allotted to him/her, the person will also be allotted a polling station in Singapore during an election, where he/she can go to cast his/her vote if he/she is back in Singapore on polling day.

The overseas polling stations are located within 9 designated Singapore's High Commissions, Embassies or Consulates in countries/cities where there is a significant overseas Singaporeans population.

When to Vote?
During an election, the date and hours of the overseas polls will be published in the Singapore Government Gazette and announced through the Singapore media, the Overseas Singaporean Portal, as well as the websites of Elections Department and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Every overseas elector who has to vote (i.e., if his constituency is contested in a Parliamentary election, or if a Presidential election is contested) will receive a poll letter from Elections Department, which will be mailed to his/her overseas address. The poll letter will contain details of the date and hours of polling at his/her allotted overseas polling station. Concurrently, a poll card containing details of the polling day in Singapore, and name/venue of the local polling station allotted to him/her, will be sent to his/her latest Singapore NRIC address or Contact Address.

Every overseas elector is allowed to vote only once during an election at either the overseas polling station or local polling station that has been allotted to him/her. Any overseas elector who goes to vote at the local polling station allotted to him/her will be required to take a declaration that he/she had not voted in the same election before he/she can be issued with a ballot paper.
