HISTORY OF ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT

The Elections Department’s history dates back to 1947 when it was established under the Chief Secretary’s Office, at the time when Singapore was still a British Colony. Subsequently, the Department was placed under the Ministry of Home Affairs, followed by the Deputy Prime Minister's Office, and finally, the Prime Minister's Office, until today. First located in the Fullerton Building, the Department had also moved its office several times, before it settled down at its present premises at Prinsep Link in 1994. In 2003, the Department was expanded to include the Registry of Political Donations.
